How do chemical peels work?
Unlike physical exfoliation, which involves massaging an abrasive solution into the skin to physically remove dead skin, chemical exfoliation involves the removal of the skin using acids that are safe for the skin and promote wound healing. On a dermal level, this causes collagen synthesis to expand dramatically. Although not painful, chemical exfoliation can produce stinging, redness, irritation, and skin crusting.
Caustic chemicals, which increase exfoliation, are the key to chemical peels. Our licensed aestheticians in Montego Bay will assess your skin to identify the most effective form of chemical peel for you. The chemicals cause the skin to produce cytokines and inflammatory mediators in order to repair itself. As a result, the epidermis thickens, collagen increases, and skin structure reorganizes. CHEMICAL PEEL AFTERCARE
The skin continues to peel for 3-5 days after the treatment is completed. It’s important to use a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. You can resume normal activity right after the peel, but avoid strenuous exercise for 2-3 days as it may cause heavy sweating.
